Welcome to the
Perry River Ranch
Welcome to the Perry River Ranch.
We are a family farm and ranch located south of Presho, South Dakota.
Presho is a town in Lyman County located along I-90 in central South Dakota with a population of just under 500. The town was established in 1905 and named after J.S. Presho, a cattleman..
We are lucky enough to live in an area that has a diverse landscape that provides excellent habitat for wildlife. The Perry River Ranch is the place to be if you’re searching for:
- South Dakota pheasant hunting
- South Dakota turkey hunting
- South Dakota goose hunting
Some of the species you can find on our ranch include ring-necked pheasant, sharp-tailed grouse, prairie chicken, white tailed deer, mule deer, Merriam turkeys, along with seasonal migratory waterfowl like ducks and Canadian geese. We offer day hunts for the ring-necked pheasant, Canada goose, and Merriam turkey.
Each hunt will be guided by Wyatt and other family members. Wyatt’s family shares the same passion for hunting as he does, so you can be assured that you’ll work with expert, experienced guides when you visit the ranch.
The Perrys have strategically placed food plots, shelterbelts, and other hunting strips for not only improving the habitat for the animals but for a successful hunt for your group.
When you book a stay at the ranch or sign up to be on our email list, the Perry River Ranch will provide you with updates throughout the year to keep you informed of bird hatches, moisture conditions, and other things happening in our neck of the woods.

Additional Hunting Information
Please read this additional information as you prepare for your hunt at Perry River Ranch.
Firearms and Ammunition
Please bring your own hunt-appropriate firearms that have been recently tested and are in proper working order. Perry River Ranch does not rent out firearms.
Note also that we do not sell ammunition. Pack ammunition before you go, or there are several places to buy ammo* in nearby towns as you pass through on your way to the hunt. You can find ammo shops in:
- Winner
- Chamberlain
- Pierre
- Sioux Falls
- Rapid City
And other cities and towns as well.
*Supplies at nearby stores will vary and they may or may not have the type of ammo you need for your hunt. This is why it is recommended that you pack ammo before you go.
Hunting Attire and Other Supplies
The weather at our South Dakota ranch can vary widely all year-around, but especially in the fall and in the spring.
For that reason, it is strongly recommended that you bring heavier jackets and other cold-weather clothing and gear starting for hunts scheduled after October 1st as inclement weather can pop up at any time.
Be sure to bring your own orange stocking hats, gloves you can shoot with and hand warmers as well. Wool stockings with waterproof boots are recommended for October 1 to May 1 hunts.
Check the weather forecast for Presho before you leave, and bring camo rain gear if there is a chance of rain. Camo face masks can be good in winter, orange caps can be good in the fall.
Bring hunting knives, ear plugs, shooting glasses, sunscreen for summer weather.
And don’t forget to bring coolers to take your game home in!
Hunting Dogs
If you’re bringing your hunting dog, please bring all proper paperwork to show that your dog is up-to-date on its vaccinations including rabies and distemper. Be sure your dog is wearing an orange hunting collar and/or vest.
Your dog must be a trained hunting dog with good obedience in order to be allowed on hunts. If we see behavior in your dog that isn’t conducive to a successful hunt, you may be asked to leave the dog in your vehicle or in one of our buildings.
Be sure to bring a kennel for your dog in case it does need to stay back for behavioral, injury or other issues and keeping it in a vehicle isn’t possible due to weather conditions such as extreme heat or cold.
