South Dakota Goose Hunting

Our Goose Hunt Technique

We start our Goose hunts at the break of daylight. We have goose pits that hold 8-10 hunters along with one guide. We typically set up decoys around the goose pit and use flags and calls to try to lure geese in range. There is no need to bring your own calls, as our guides will have and use them.

For goose hunts, steel shot is required for your shotguns as is a plug for your magazine.

Our goose pits are dug five foot in the ground. For our goose hunts, we put all hunters in the goose pit, surround it with decoys, and set it up to look like the geese are feeding.

Wyatt, the pit man, is looking up while everyone else is looking down in order to minimize visibility as the geese approach the pit.

Perry River Ranch has two pits; one up top and one down near the river. Having two pits on two different types of terrain helps us to maximize the chances of you getting your daily limit of geese.
