Firearms and Ammunition
Please bring your own hunt-appropriate firearms that have been recently tested and are in proper working order. Perry River Ranch does not rent out firearms.
Note also that we do not sell ammunition. Pack ammunition before you go, or there are several places to buy ammo* in nearby towns as you pass through on your way to the hunt. You can find ammo shops in:
And other cities and towns as well.
*Supplies at nearby stores will vary and they may or may not have the type of ammo you need for your hunt.
The weather at our South Dakota ranch can vary widely all year-around, but especially in the fall and in the spring.
For that reason, it is strongly recommended that you bring heavier jackets and other cold-weather clothing and gear starting for hunts scheduled after October 1st as inclement weather can pop up at any time.
Be sure to bring your own orange stocking hats, gloves you can shoot with and hand warmers as well. Wool stockings with waterproof boots are recommended for October to May hunts.
Check the weather forecast for Presho before you leave, and bring camo rain gear if there is a chance of rain. Camo face masks can be good in winter, orange baseball caps can be good in the summer.
Bring hunting knives, ear plugs, shooting sunglasses, sunscreen for summer weather and bug spray as well for spring hunts.
And don’t forget to bring coolers to take your game home in!
If you’re bringing your hunting dog, please bring all proper paperwork to show that your dog is up-to-date on its vaccinations including rabies and distemper. Be sure your dog is wearing an orange hunting collar and/or vest.
Your dog must be a trained hunting dog with good obedience in order to be allowed on hunts. If we see behavior in your dog that isn’t conducive to a successful hunt, you may be asked to leave the dog in your vehicle or in one of our buildings.
Be sure to bring a kennel for your dog in case it does need to stay back for behavioral, injury or other issues and keeping it in a vehicle isn’t possible due to weather conditions such as extreme heat or cold.
Feel free to contact us for more information about our hunts or to book dates.
